Behavior Adjustment Training

Behavior adjustment training (BAT) is a technique popularized by Grisha Stewart of Ahimsa Dog Training. It is a useful technique for dog owners to understand, especially for dogs that show heightened arousal in the presence of their triggers.

We provide a fearful dog with the reward of being able to move away from a trigger (additional food treats can be added) when they perform an appropriate behavior. The offered behavior may be subtle, an eye blink, lip lick, or head turn, for example. The proximity of the trigger is not so close as to provoke a negative response. The goal is to build on the appropriate behaviors the dog is displaying and changing both the behavioral response and the emotional response of the dog as well.

This short BAT seminar video will help dog-savvy viewers get started with Behavior Adjustment Training. You’ll see how to add BAT to your behavior modification toolbox to build dogs’ coping skills and decrease fear.

Behavior Adjustment Training helps dogs improve their social skills in a natural way. BAT has quickly swept around the globe as dog trainers discover how effective it is in rehabilitating dogs with fear or aggression issues. The Organic Socialization DVD was created for the home viewer and is not a seminar. It will give you a solid understanding of this simple, dog-friendly technique.
