Another year and more to look forward to and feel hopeful about. I want to give a shout out to my friend Sara Matters. Sara finished coursework for a certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis from Florida Institute of Technology. Along with being an animal trainer, Sara has created Lemon’s Hope Sanctuary. Lemon’s Hope provides a home for domestic animals, and way station for training and rehabilitation for equines. The sanctuary is located on 77 acres of hilltop property in southern Vermont.
There are perks to being friends with high achievers. I’m especially happy that with her coursework completed I won’t feel so bad suggesting workshops and seminars that can be hosted at the sanctuary. Lucky for me ideas like; a training workshop for owners and caregivers of wolf dog hybrids, or a summer camp to teach kids to train, or operant conditioning mechanics for BCBAs and RBTs, and my favorite, a retreat for animal trainers, are met with, “Sounds good!”
Coming up in March I’ll be presenting my popular one-day seminar on working with fear based behaviors. This event will also be a fundraiser for Lemon’s Hope Sanctuary. A permanent shelter to provide housing for guest equines is on the wish list. Also, there are routine vet care, upkeep and enrichment expenses. I hope you can join us!
